Loraine Blasberg, 89, of Tripoli, died Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at her home in Tripoli.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 11, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made in her name to Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli.
Loraine, daughter of Herman and Clara Buhre Biermann, was born March 14, 1924, in rural Tripoli. She was baptized in May of 1924, and confirmed in 1938, at St. John United Church of Christ-Siegel, and attended Douglas Township #5 rural school in Bremer County. Before she was married, Loraine worked as a hired girl at neighboring farms, and later at Panzer Produce in Tripoli. On May 6, 1946, Loraine was united in marriage with Erwin Blasberg. They farmed in the Tripoli and Buck Creek areas until moving to Tripoli in 1973. Loraine also worked at Tonne Farms in rural Tripoli and Hillendale Egg Processing and Sara Lee, both in New Hampton, prior to retiring in 1989. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli where she enjoyed quilting with Lydia’s Circle, and delivering sermon tapes to those not able to attend church. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, taking care of her lawn, and in her later years, playing cards.
Loraine is survived by two sons, Allen (Dixie) Blasberg and Gregory Blasberg, both of Tripoli; one daughter, Cheryl (James) Willson of Shell Rock; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, John (Marlys) Biermann of Tripoli; and a sister-in-law, Lorene Biermann of Waverly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died July 26, 1982; a grandson, Dustin Erwin Blasberg; her parents; two brothers, Virgil and Lavern Biermann; and a sister, who died in infancy.
